United Way Success Story: From welfare to home ownership
A single mother. Welfare. She'd had enough. Jaye Forsythe decided to take charge of her life and find a job.
Soon after, Jaye learned that she qualified for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). She quickly scheduled a time to have her taxes prepared for free thanks to a partnership with United Way 2-1-1, Central Kentucky Economic Empowerment Project and LexLinc. Through this free service, Jaye was able to keep the money she earned.
After receiving the EITC tax refund, she used the money as a down payment on her first home and continues to build a better life for her family.
