United Way Success Story: Theresa Parks

Theresa Parks, a mother of two, wanted to give back to her life-long community but wasn’t sure how to contribute. After retiring from a career in the business world, she felt she had much to give in a leadership role. That’s when Theresa found United Way’s Get On Board program.

Get On Board is a 10-week program designed to recruit, train, place and retain board members for nonprofits in the community. The program gives voice to those who feel underrepresented and helps boards structure their leadership to reflect the populations they serve. To date, Get On Board has helped place over 100 trained leaders on community nonprofit boards.

Theresa is now making a difference and has quickly risen to the role of volunteer board president of Mother to Mother, a local nonprofit providing opportunities for mothers to connect and learn from other mothers across economic and racial barriers.
