United Way Success Story: Rachel

United Way Success Story: Rachel

Rachel is a five-year-old foster child who entered a United Way funded program two and a half years ago. She had difficulty making friends, was uncooperative and displayed behavior problems. The program identified a speech problem and began weekly therapy. With support from her teacher and therapist, she has made remarkable progress. Rachel now speaks more clearly, writes her name and recognizes colors, shapes, letters and numbers. She has many friends and is well behaved. Most importantly, she is ready to enter kindergarten with her peers.

United Way helps create lasting change for families like Rachel’s through early child care, education, adult literacy, self-sufficiency programs, counseling, emergency food assistance, employment training and more.
