United Way Success Story: Mike Frasier

United Way Success Story: Mike Frasier

Would you know what to do if one of your co-workers had signs of a heart attack? Fortunately, Mike Fraiser*, a Red Cross volunteer, knew exactly what to do. By recognizing the symptoms he learned in a First Aid/CPR class at the Bluegrass Chapter of the American Red Cross two weeks earlier, he quickly realized that his co-worker, John Carson, needed immediate care. While waiting for an ambulance to arrive, Mike administered CPR and oxygen to John and was able to calm his breathing. John survived, and the doctors attributed the majority of his success to the immediate and continuous supply of oxygen he received through CPR. John was back to work in six weeks.

The Health and Safety Service program at the Bluegrass Chapter of the American Red Cross addresses the community’s ability to prevent, prepare for and react to emergency situations involving the care of the injured or ill. With your contribution to United Way, you are supporting programs such as Health and Safety Service at the Red Cross. You are helping save the lives of people like John.
